I’ve used gamenative to play balatro on my phone and it worked surprisingly well. It’s amazing how good PC emulation on android has become.

Can you provide a few more details about the hardware you’re on, the version of Ubuntu, the type of update performed, and anything else you think could be relevant?

My family and I are on the Bell network (except for ISP for one person, teksavvy ~= Rogers cable) so this may not be relevant. Those of us that use IPTV have found that we need a VPN to avoid connection issues caused by ISP interference.

Personally, I’ve had a pretty good experience when I’ve used it on my phone behind a vpn but that’s Bell.

I guess there are some examples of that happening with places like patreon, floatplane, twitch, kick, etc. It’s hard to fathom anything coming along that can even approach the reach of youtube without backing from another big tech company and eventually following the same enshittification pattern.

That used to be a fair deal. We know better now and even have a word for what will happen to us once we’re locked into the system, enshittification. Just about every subscription model eventually leads to squeezing as much as they can out of us without a corresponding increase in value.

What gives me pause is how it went in Vancouver and how the public turned against it to the point that it was a major election talking point. That’s the guide I followed on my desktop and laptop.

Anything that runs windows can probably run Linux and work well enough for self-hosting. But you’re getting ahead of yourself with worrying about hardware.

Easiest way to start is to find something that you want to try selfhosting that is relatively simple and use WSL within windows to familiarize yourself with Linux/networking/docker.

Once you’re far enough along to know what your needs are, then you can start thinking about the hardware to meet those needs.

Also my daily. I’ve been a vertical tab person for many years with treestyle tabs and then sidebery. Weirdly enough, it was family viewing in my household. We just treated it like any other decent sci-fi show and didn’t take it that seriously. That was a common experience for friends as well but it’s too small a sample size to say one way or another about possible real-world consequences.
