At my job we get like half of a pizza FOR FREE maybe once or twice a year. It’s not a personal pizza, but still. Pretty crazy bonus.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Valve's Steam Deck OLED is out of stock in the US, and I think we can guess why
9·1 month agoMine has 48GB. Started with 16, but a few years ago the pc started crashing/freezing randomly. I assumed it was because of bad ram, so I just bought a new set of 32GB, since it was pretty cheap, but the crashes continued after switching to the new ram. So I added the old 2x8gb sticks back in and now I have 48.
Turned out it was the cpu that was bad.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•99% of the time when I get exposed to content that sucks, it's because of other people creating content about the content they also think sucks.
1·2 months agoI hate the word content. It’s so generic. Like, am I just a vessel to be filled with “content”?

Yeah. It was very realistic. Sometimes they simplified explanations a bit. They had real hackers as consultants, and Sam Esmail, the creator of the show, was into hacking and computers as a teen.
Yes! I did this so many times as a t(w)een! Good times.

One of my favorites I read was the trilogy which starts with The Three-body Problem. Mind boggling stuff, and page turners, but not perfect.
I also read a lot of Stephen King, and the award for the best book I read in 2025 has to go to The Green Mile. It’s one of King’s best, and one I have great memories of reading when it came out.

(Tech worker here, hoping to move to the countryside next year.)
Absolutely. I probably wouldn’t be doing any farming, except grow some vegetables for my own needs. But I would definitely build my own awesome local infrastructure with a server room and network cables in the walls and all that good stuff. When I retire and don’t have to spend 8-10 hours a day in front of a computer at work, it’ll probably be enjoyable and satisfying again to work on and maintain my own computers and stuff. Currently I rarely have the motivation or energy to do that.
And if the house is large enough I’d also make certain areas/rooms completely tech free. Like maybe a small library with only books and comfy chairs, and no wifi signal.

29·3 months agoMy favorite bug ever.
Tarn once explained it in more detail: the game’s code is object oriented, and the small amount of beer on a cat’s paw inherited all the variables of a full mug of beer. And the game uses a creature’s body size + amount of alcohol ingested to calculate/simulate drunkenness (all the way to alcohol poisoning and death).

Yeah, that’s actually also why it’s no longer considered best practice to force regular password changes. But many places / websites /apps still do, obviously.

Television@piefed.social•Fediverse Vote Update: Rank your Top 10 Favourite Series: 5th Week
2·5 months ago- Mr. Robot
- Stranger Things
- Twin Peaks
- Breaking Bad
- Parks and Recreation
- LOST
- The Expanse
- Babylon 5
- Better Call Saul
- Chernobyl
List sorting is somewhat based on what impact/influence a show has had on my life. For example, Parks & Rec is an amazing show AND was a big help during a tough time in my life. On the other hand, Chernobyl is also amazing, but wasn’t life changing for me personally. And LOST is great, but isn’t perfect and has its flaws, but the season 3 finale is one of the most emotional experiences I’ve ever had in relation to a tv show or movie. So it gets a relatively high spot.
