They didn’t live without ID for 30 years, there are now more strict requirements for obtaining one, and older IDs that don’t fit the new qualifications aren’t accepted for things like flying. Many countries especially 30 years ago might not have digital records of marriages, people born in the US are having the same issue obtaining birth certificates from rural hospitals, or some people born in the US decades ago never received a birth certificate.

This seems dependant on location to me. In a region I lived before it would be rare that someone would talk to me in public like at the store, now where I’m at it happens all the time, people seem much more social in general. I used to be sort of confused when it did happen, now I’m used to it and it feels like a nice human moment when it does usually.

I was actually surprised to see a lot of comments on r/conservative talking about how the stuff the feds are saying about the second amendment is wrong and unconstitutional, and a good number saying that the killing wasn’t necessary, they’ll ultimately support Trump and ICE over any kind of progressive though but it was interesting. Even the NRA posted about how Pretti was a legal gun owner and there should be an investigation before people jump to conclusions.

The 8 year Border Patrol veteran who shot him seemed to see the gun and unholstered his own, then the moment Alex’s gun was taken away he started shooting. It’s like he saw the justification and realized he could execute him and waited to be safe, at no point is the main murderer in any danger or engaged directly with Alex, he was watching from above until he started shooting.

It’s different when they are actively murdering us. This is an urgent crisis, imagine a violent gang was roaming and blatantly murdering people and abducting children in a city and the government called them heroes? And a decent amount of the local police are friends with that gang. Courts and trials are important also but we need to use whatever means we have to prevent or slow the killing if we have the ability to.

Unless those on the attacking side (MAGA) decide they don’t want to murder more of us, I’m not sure we can. The first civil war was incredibly bloody and tensions between the sides never settled down fully. We are in this situation partly because there is no way to have a compromise with people that believe some of our society’s members aren’t human. The white supremacist view of slave owners and supporters of slavery never went away, it needs to be cut out from the root.
