For the curious, it’s a link to a petition to ban these glasses. And while I absolutely hate these glasses and want legislation limiting them in at least some capacity, I don’t know that it will be successful - it is perfectly legal to photograph and record people in public (where there is “no expectation of privacy”).

The fact that there is no indication when they are in use is concerning, and something there should be laws around (although, thinking it through a bit more, there’s no indicator on, say, a cellphone). The petition mentions audio consent laws, which is another potential avenue for legislation, but not all states have two party consent (where everyone involved in a recorded conversation knows it’s being recorded).

In my humble opinion, as some dude writing a comment on the internet, is that the best chance for legislation would be around connecting personal data with the data recorded by the glasses. The scenario I’m thinking of is something like “hey slopbot, what are the names and addresses of everyone I’ve seen today”. It would then link the recording to other public images of you, which would likely provide a name, and then search those people finder sites and get all of that, as well as your previous addresses, family members, phone numbers, arrest history, and a list of fears.

    I hate all of this

  • Suing doesn’t mean you get money, it means you open a complaint and request judgement. Sometimes the judgement results in someone getting money, but not always. If you read the article, you’d see they are suing in order to compel the administration to comply with 11 FOIA requests.

The DNC said the court must now enforce FOIA requirements “to ensure that the American people obtain timely knowledge of potential threats to free and fair elections and to enable the DNC to take appropriate action to ensure voting rights are protected.”

  • I started Andromeda only after I beat the legendary edition for the first time, and I have mixed feelings about it. There are definitely little irksome bugs like you mentioned, and unfinished storylines that make you feel like there’s more game or like there’s a second one in the works. The thing that bugs me the most is that none of your choices matter in the game. Nothing changes, zero consequences, nada. That’s one of the things that really drew me to ME to begin with.

Honestly, with exceptions to those small bugs and room for improvement regarding gameplay, I liked it. It doesn’t have the same replay value, and the story feels unfinished, and your choices don’t matter, but it’s still pretty fun.

I actually didn’t know they shut down the multiplayer servers for ME:A. I never really got into it the way I did with ME3 (which I still play almost daily). Shameless plug for a community dedicated to the multiplayer aspect of Mass Effect !mecoop@lemmy.world
