3·12 days agoBut then obviously pedestrians or cyclists don’t compare in distance by far. Cars drive autobahns and whatnot. There should be a statistic for daily use instead. Like: ride the bike to work versus drive the car to work versus take the train to work, etc. How many people die?

5·12 days agothere are significantly more cars around than bikes.
I see what you mean and agree, that relative numbers would be nice. But what would the counter argument be? That if there were more bikes, then bike-related deaths would rise more than car-related deaths would shrink? It would be hard to prove that.
Also, the matrix for cities still shows cars as a much bigger problem, while European cities have plenty of cyclists. Again, relative numbers would be nice. Or a comparison between a dutch city and a polish city, for example. But if i compare both tables (overall vs cities), i am certain the argument holds.

3·12 days agoIs that the raw deaths per vehicle, or does it equalize relative vehicle popularity?
There is a URL to the study. Let us know what you find.
I assume that there are a fair bit more cars on the roads than there are motorbikes, which means that we would not be able to compare them otherwise.
I think i saw somewhere that motorbikes are more deadly relatively, but mostly to their own rider.
Unless, of course, if one simply is trying to sow discord.
Do you mean me? Because i don’t have numbers on motorbikes?

5·12 days agoI’d guess they know how many people died, even if there is no police report. Or even if the culprit fled from the crime scene. There is a url to the study.

11·12 days agoer… yeah that looks weird. I think the truck was only the main vehicle in a crash. Read the little description underneath. There could have been another vehicle involved, which killed the truck driver, maybe?
i compare that to these nazi punks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_punk

13·1 month agobad for competition? If people want FOSS software, well go make a good product then!
does this need to be done 8 billion times or just for the number of olympic participants? I guess this is a resource question.

oh yeah and the winner will be given the epithet Best Random Person.
How would that work? I mean the blockchain part, not the personal information of 8 billion people in the hands of few people part.
I love it. Lets fine tune.

give them 1 year and a salary to train, make every event into Cool Runnings. Also only allow 26 year olds so we have a level playing field.
That would lead to doping abuse and then we’d have to do tons of checks for a year.
But how about:
- give them only weeks to train, but on site.
- have a lottery group of 10 per country, allowing only 3 to compete. That would even it out a tiny bit.
- the 7 none-competitors are still given responsibilities on the team. As supporters, coaches, spokespeople, crew, … idk managers, etc. I wanna see what the teams come up with. Do they sell merch? Do they provide buses to get fans to cheer at the event? Do they serve their athletes to their best performance?
- everybody is given the same fixed salary separately, though
- ah yes and everybody must see the same doctors provided by the Lottery Olympics Committee. Not someone hidden or bribe-able
Then during the weeks on site there is an entire media team providing insights, doing interviews, shows and whatnot. And a reality tv show or whatever the kids are watching these days.

1·1 month agoNot correct. And misleading. I know not just bikes well. Infrastructure is way more than one bike lane. It is also about how traffic crosses a bike lane. The crossing is slowed down by speedbumps (?) or the bike path is elevated by a curb, etc. and a wide area of visibility is provided, so they are visible before crossing. And most importantly, the car drivers are taught about it. What i mean is, that like in this foto, might work well in the Netherlands, but not so much in other countries.
