To me, storytelling and immersion is everything. Good visuals are of course a bonus, but soundtrack is almost more important than visuals. Gaming, to me, is a means to escape, instead of drugs and alcohol. I put on my closed Sennheiser headphones and just disappear. Skyrim was my salvation for years, until I discovered the two Horizon games.

While I miss my parents after having moved out, I do appreciate my array of clothes being nonvolatile memory. It’s become a comfort, knowing that it stays in the same configuration unless I actively recompile it.

I did the same thing last year, only to break apart the server-gaming rig into two separate machines again last week. The reason being, my server needs to be on all the time, it serving some stuff and seeding Linux ISOs and whatnot. At the same time, my GPU - the mighty 3080 - was idling at around 30 watts and my CPU - my precious 5800X3D - was power hungry too. Obviously that’s just a few bucks a month, but it adds up when it’s constantly running. Swapping the GPU and CPU out for a Ryzen APU (5700G) saved me 30 watts + whatever my 5800X3D was idling at.
