Yeah. I’m a fan of some less-popular musicians who have a few hundred Redditors and at least a dozen active participants. Here it’s literally me talking to a wall. Or no forum at all.

I am indeed aware of the existence of radios. I dislike radio because I prefer to have some level of control over what I’m listening to. Even with algorithmic slop I can skip tracks if I want.

It is for most people. But most people aren’t all.

It is in some communities. But there are certain places I used to see pretty regular updates and engagement on Reddit that either don’t exist here or are absolute ghost towns. You can say that’s because of a different user base and different priorities and that’s fair — but then you can’t complain about low involvement/engagement by people who want to participate in those communities.

Except that it’s already secure. There are monitors, studies, and statistics to back the fact that illegally voting is a statistically nonexistent problem. The number of such cases is vanishingly small. There is no problem that needs solving here. It’s just assholes like yourself trying to impose their will on the law.

In the US, there is no free option for public ID. Voting is a right. You are required to prove identity at the time of registration, which can be done using your birth certificate.

Essentially, the push for photo ID is a way to disenfranchise poor people, women and trans people, and other groups who may for whatever reason not have easy access to an “acceptable” ID.

Historically our courts have found that creating a financial barrier to voting is a violation of the constitution. The current Supreme Court, staffed entirely by far-right activists rather than serious jurists, is far less likely to rule that way, so anti-democracy folks are pushing to establish a new precedent before the court can be reformed.

There’s a girl on Instagram whose whole schtick is that she sends feet pics and stuff to MAGA guys and then openly mocks them for financing her lifestyle and donates some of the money to progressive causes. She has been doing it for months and I’m convinced part of the appeal for these guys is the humiliation ritual of being “owned.”

I had been using YouTube for “background noise” a lot — nothing political, just movie reviews and video essays about pop culture. In general, my YouTube diet is pretty non-toxic.

But I fell down a rabbit hole researching a band lately and have been obsessively listening to music for a couple of weeks. Mostly on my MP3 player to give my phone a break. And holy cow it feels nice not to be bombarded with curated Content all the time. I didnt even realize how consistently/constantly there was just STUFF on that, while not bad, wasn’t really contributing anything to my life.
