3·10 days agoAnd the more connected ones you put in, the more people will use them, and the less you have to invest in road maintenance from car wear and tear.
It’s a phenomenal idea to reduce maintenance costs, reduce traffic, dollars spent on police/fire/ems visits to crash sites, and fewer dollars spent on public health due to vehicle emissions.
And it saves riders a shitton of money in gas, car maintenance and potentially insurance, if they only need one car instead of two.
Growing up, everyone felt pity for them, as they grew up sheltered and not very well educated. In modern times, I feel like this has been magnified significantly.
I’d only do it if your kid was getting the absolute shit kicked out of them at school(s). Social media makes it extremely easy to get chain-bullied at multiple schools even with a transfer or two.

It’s always a safer move to wear protection. If you’re monogamous and your partner hasn’t had any illness recently, it’s probably safe to do raw if they do a good clean out first.

We’re a car-light household, so it doesn’t affect us too much. I still want better mass transit options, though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•They confirm life after death is real and you'll see your friends and family that have passed, what do you do?
1·17 days agoIt really depends. Can they see my flings and hookups and everything in real time over the course of my life? If so, I’ll need 30+ post-death years to get over the embarrassment.
Do you think they were made domestically and just had dogshit logistics, or overseas and also had terrible logistics?

2·17 days agoYou and me both. It’s especially fun when you work in multiple timezones and some also have standard or daylight time on top of that. Really adds a layer to that shit sandwich of 12 hour time with 12am/pm confusion too

2·21 days agoDefinitely a tough situation. I hope things work out well for all of you. I’m also extremely curious about what animal John has for his fursona.
FWIW, I’m not too worried about John’s dating life. The furry community is pretty strong and cross-functional, and there’s a ton of hobby overlap with furries and other hobbies and sports. Especially if he’s bi, there will be others that he will meet, and he’s young. Hopefully his depression gets better.

Technology@beehaw.org•California’s New Bill Requires DOJ-Approved 3D Printers That Report on Themselves
5·26 days agoI just don’t really know how it’s really going to work. Couldn’t you just design your own parts with one weird bit of geometry and the computer wouldn’t recognize it?
Like, I get you don’t want ghost guns, but it seems like the bigger prize is going after illegal and currently legal guns that are actually used in mass shootings. 3D printed stuff seems like small potatoes compared to the daily casualty rates.
I concur with most things; the anticipation is better than the actual thing itself. Except really great bidets with dryers and heated seats. That gift pays dividends all year round. Hell, it gets better with time.
I think the Valve era was pretty incredible.
Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Half Life + HL2, and Portal + 2 all pushed the genres forward or were utterly unique for their time.
I can’t think of any other dev ATM that was doing what valve was doing in the 00s and early 10s.

Democratic det, no contest. The grenade is good, the armor is good, the Eruptor might be one of the best primaries in the game.
It’s basically a light autocannon that can close bug holes, inhumanly kill and maim most enemies, and it does heavy damage. As a primary. That means it can kill automoton heatsinks on things like mortars too. It can also blow over shields on harvesters. It can kill heavies and flying aircraft.
The only downside are the ergonomics aren’t great at first (the reticle is slow to move). This can be upgraded by using it and then buying the weapon upgrades that prioritize the “ergonomic” modifier. It becomes pretty dang fast at level 23 ish.
Do not use it at close range, or around allies. Back at release, it was even more lethal, lol. And in fast enemies, it can be a danger to you. Keep a good, fast secondary to get enemies off you.
The desert dlc is also really good, the Solo Silo is absolutely, certifiably cracked. It’s a laser-guided (if you hold it down) 500kg, or a dumbfire (if you click) missile. It’s way more lethal than a 500, because it pretty much never misses its target.
If you order one, the cooldown will start again. So you can have two back-to within seconds if you want as soon as two minutes into a mission. It takes your third gun slot, but you can equip a backpack stratagem or you want more protection, or an EAT or flame EAT if you need constant AT potential while the solo silo is on cooldown.
As a bonus, it looks cool as shit if you are looking towards the launch site from a couple hundred meters out when you call it down on a target between you and it’s launch site. Pocket ICBM.
