Reviews (as an addition to human reviews) is actually one thing that AI does pretty well. It’s not good for large architectural issues but it can point out nuanced issues in single files that often wouldn’t be caught otherwise

I keep saying this but painting any use of AI at all as the same as vibe coding just harms the real complaints against it, ESPECIALLY in this case where it’s subtracting from another real issue (the age gating)

  • That’s actually fucking absurd wow. I was in the Canadian Air Cadets as a kid and even then I didn’t see that level of recruiting. Like even when doing Cadet basic training on an actual air base, it was always just learning drill, shooting, and about how planes worked. I’ve never in my life been asked or had it suggested to me that I join the military

I mean I agree but you can’t say riding on something like this “bike route” in Ottawa, Canada isn’t a death wish

Like, it’s because of cars that its dangerous. I recognise that a lot of countries have much better infrastructure that makes it much safer but our infrastructure is shit. I say that as someone who does bike as a means of transport often

  • Regarding Jellyfin, if the PC you got has an Intel CPU then using Intel QuickSync would actually easily outperform the NVIDIA card for transcoding.

Up until very recently I was using a cheap i3 to power my Jellyfin instance that often has 5+ streams going at a time. (The only reason I upgraded was that I had a friend getting rid of an i7 from the same gen lol)

  • I don’t like AI but christ Lemmy is getting annoying lately with kneejerk “slop” claims for anything with the letters AI in it. A lot of this stuff has been used for ages and yeah, they’re leaning into the current hype but the over reaction is just ridiculous (see: the “open slop” list of open source projects that includes those that have the audacity to allow developers the ability to use AI line completion)

It genuinely diminishes actual concerns with AI tech when people are losing it over things that have existed long before the current bubble but just have AI™️ on the package now
