When people ask why men are always fascinated by the Roman Empire it’s because it’s analogous to our current timeline. It’s a great way to parse where we are or how far we have left to fall.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you feel about the current state of Lemmy?English
13·1 day agoDepends where you’re looking. It’s not as active as Reddit for sure, but it also has far fewer non-humans too which seems to be the majority of Reddit these days - either repost bots or even comment bots so the activity isnt real, it’s a mere simulation. I don’t fear that here. PugJesus is real. 😃

6·2 days agoSadly, the US has shown how broken it really is to allow Cheeto-in-chief and his cronies to work above the law and not be stopped, and a large proportion of the country is completely happy with this. The rest of the world has been shown how unreliable the US as a partner and will find alternatives. US hegemony is dead. The country has failed. Internally, it’s going to have to be restructured. If that means war, that may happen. There are huge divisions morally within the country that make for poor bedfellows.

2·5 days agoJust finished watching La Palma. As a geologist who has been to the Canaries and done a field trip with the scientist involved in the show, it was a good watch.

If youve become the kind of party that Nazis will happily vote for, it’s probably time for some self-reflection

8·7 days agoWhilst not a big fan of Horizon Worlds (partly because of it’s lack of availability when the Quest 3 launched in Australia, and apathy to bother switching my VPN to US), it’s still a shame that a VR “3rd place” is shutting down.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you manage messages across multiple apps?English
2·7 days agoIt can be, you just say you only use “messaging app of choice” and email. Email always works. And you can’t use any other app due to company security policies.

You might avoid sales tax (like GST or VAT) but you’ll be hit with an import tax instead which can often be higher than the sales tax.
