“If you decide to go with your ego and not with your head, you are leaving behind dozens of wealthy people from all over the world who will know that you performed market manipulation and stole from them. They know who you are, you don’t know who they are. It took them less than 5 minutes to find out exactly where you live … how often you see your lovely parents … and exactly who your … brothers and sisters are.”
So the guy threatening the journalist to change his story so the gambler can make money isn’t market manipulation, but the journalist not changing his story is…
What scary about this, and it was mentioned in the article, is how future stories by less than ethical “journalist” can be purchased so that one side can become rich. Fuck accuracy it’s all about the money.
Well it’s not like that is already the case with social media, but I would like to think there is at least some aspect of reporting that is based in ethics and truth.

The contents of which will read -
“If you or your shell company owns 50+ single family homes and/or 20+ apartment buildings then you’ll be able to buy 500 more of either, or a combination of both fully subsidized by the American tax payer. If you don’t have any home then fuck off!”

I’m sure the Department of defense war planned for this … right? … RIGHT?

I know I’m crazy to say this but shouldn’t this read: CONGRESS say… not trump?

The only president in US history to have been impeached twice
The only president in US history to have been convicted of 34 felony charges as well

There was a story from the podcast ‘Darknet Dairies’ where it was discovered that a journalist’s phone had tracking software uploaded to their phone in a zero click text. The target’s phone received a text in the middle of the night that uploaded the software and then deleted any history of the text being received. I think this is one of features of the Pegasus software sold by the NSO Group. And that was 5 or 6 years ago.

Right. There were many times while on Reddit that I wanted to contribute something to the discussion but ended up deciding it’s not really worth the effort, it would never get seen. Until that fateful day my last comment was seen… Lemmy ever since.

Happened to me 3 years ago for calling trump supporters dumb rednecks - turns out I was wrong; there is an unfortunate diversity in this demographic. But honestly I haven’t really missed Reddit and enjoy the slow pace of Lemmy more.

…And yet no one in power right now will push back against it because they don’t want to be seen as “weak on defense”

HA! yes. I knew I spelled it wrong just to lazy to edit my post - thanks!

This feels like gorilla marketing to me. They knew the judge would tell them to take them off and it would be just enough of a sensational story to make it to press. Now more people know that Meta has these glasses.
Edit: I’m not changing it. The responses to my mistake are too funny

I think Obama not pursuing charges against those in the Bush administration was another, more recent, bit of bullshit.
as an aside - Read somewhere that this argument that the government can’t afford all of these things like healthcare, infrastructure, etc. that would help most people is bullshit. Since the federal government prints it’s own money there is nothing that it can’t afford. We spent 3 - 8 trillion on the Afghanistan and Iraq wars alone. And when people argue that it will increase inflation - sure maybe, but if you tax wealthy people more it can cover part or all of the newly printed money.
Note: I’m a bit of an idiot about this stuff - so this article could be completely off base and I just wouldn’t know.
There is a group, unfortunately large, in the political sphere that can’t fathom there being people too poor to go to Starbucks. Their world view is that the poors are only making 80k a year (which is poor to them). We have some really old, really wealthy, and really out of touch people in leadership positions in this country.
