World News@lemmy.ml•‘Absolute lie’: Russia denies role in Yevgeny Prigozhin plane crash
12·3 years agoIf you say the lie often enough, it becomes the excepted truth.
I mostly agree with you, but protections aren’t the same thing as rights. Protections are a one way street, rights are a two way street.
If they’re as smart, communicatable and capable of social responsibilities, then yes. There are some species that may be “differently” smart as humans, but lack a common lanuage and can’t take on shared social responsibilities, so giving them rights is difficult to say the least.
Also, as far as resource costs go, planting tree is more efficient at capturing carbon then any industrial scrubber. Research should still be done, but anyone trying to sell a scrubber plant is just fishing for VC funds.
They’re not really right wing. Very suburban, sheltered and privileged, but I’ve never heard them talk politics. I can say extra privileged because one of them wanted to put an Battlefield sound board in their car. Sure, that’s what you want. Making it easy to accidentally make the sounds of gunfire if you ever get pulled over by a cop because your taillight is out.
As far as star trek goes, they’re rather talk about the power output of the phasers then character arcs. They’re very basic.
“NFTs will protect artists!”
You can’t name a single court case where nft receipts won the case, but it’s very easy to find nft bros minting other people’s work.
I know a bunch of trekkies, a fandom around a post scarcity, pseudo communist utopia, embrace crypto despite it being an artificial scarcity concept that doesn’t really fix any of the issues of the preceding system. I make fun of them whenever nfts come up, including posting any negative nft news into the humor channel of their discord.

World News@lemmy.ml•Fukushima wastewater released into the ocean, China bans all Japanese seafood
202·3 years agoBecause the color gradient is relative. A large enough banana would also light up. Also exposure time is another factor and this will dissipate very quickly. You can play it safe by abstain of seafood and swimming for a week.

World News@lemmy.ml•Maker Naomi Wu is Silenced by Chinese Authorities (And Why I Blame Elon Musk)
152·3 years agoGive up. You could post an article by a Pulitzer Prize Winner and it wouldn’t be good enough. Hell, I posted an English translation of a Chinese article about the arrest of a Chinese LGBT author and it wasn’t good enough.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.mltoPolitics@lemmy.ml•Iraq is considering the death penalty for LGBTQ+ people - and you can thank the British for that
22·3 years agoPassing the blame of current laws onto British from 150 years ago is also inherently racist because it requires the current people of Iraq to be without free will. They are their own people and make their own decisions.
The ones in the meme are natural. The SawPatrol thing is artificial. It’s being pushed by marketing people.
