Tuya makes zigbee devices that are cheap. It is the only tuya stuff I tend to use.
I highly dislike wifi dependant devices unless they are larger more complex devices that get stable updates.
There seem to be some 3rd party music capable devices in the works but nothing ready made in production.
I am waiting for a better overall speaker and I need a new server that can at least run a small lllm to run the assistant as intents are too ridged
I have some gen 1 devices but at this point the hardware probably is worth replacing I think the mics are going bad on a few I have.
There are 3rd parties that appear to be working on the LACK of music quality speaker with alternatives to the voice only PE.
As I said the PE has a bad speaker… My existing devices are in 5 different rooms and mostly used for casual music listening. I have no intent on purchasing PEs + external speakers for every room. Particularly to clutter night stands.
I am waiting for something more like this… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5yNEhcAjWU
Or something like a amazon dot or google mini with an OK music speaker
I have refused to purchase one, hoping a better speaker comes out as I have several rooms to replace google devices in.
I have seen cheap external computer speakers suggested several times, you can often find them dirt cheap at second hand and surplus stores.
US automakers broke their deals on running factories here. We have no native auto brands (other than attempted startups) building factories.
No need to protect US brand pricing anymore, let’s make cars affordable to Canadians
At least in Japan they have fresh cooked food and teach students how to eat healthy.

2·2 months agoSurprised that Apple allows use of the old layout still be thankyou I had not noticed it buried in the settings
Based on the exact wording I think this is a hard swap on religious people’s take on evolution and atheism to make that exact point.

231·2 months agoNormal people, particularly old ones don’t like visual overhauls.
There are several things since the update that I think are just objectively worst like how tabs work in safari that still bother me since the update.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s contributing most to the death of the open internet?English
7·5 months agoConsolidations of forums onto subreddit style systems including Lemmy. They almost completely replaced individual forums with subtopics.
While Lemmy is still open the consolidations really cut down on the independence of a lot of the older forums or even whole sites.

British Columbia•BC Hydro Peak Saver: "Earn rewards for shifting your energy use during peak events"English
3·5 months agoI have only ever seen negatives posted about these types of programs.
Keep in mind that the events are normally when you also want it.
Think of them turning your AC off during a heat wave type of event.
As someone who self hosts most things I would never hand over control to the utility for my HVAC.
Going to find out if things improved when I pull them out for Christmas again this year.
Picked up the Christmas lights 2 last year mattter allowed for on off and solid color control not much else. Nothing like scenes or patterns.
I used Govee2mqtt to control them instead from HA as the built in integration didn’t support that model yet last year and G2M just had way more features .

Canada•Canada postal workers strike after government orders end to door-to-door deliveryEnglish
2·6 months agoGovernment, has approved a cost saving measure that Canada Post has been asking for for years. It was mandated as a grandfathered item for existing service. New developments have all been community mailboxes for a long time.
Government is being reasonable, the Union is not.

Canada•An american senator has written a letter to representatives from Western Canada urging them to join the United StatesEnglish
15·6 months agoThe strength of the United States lies in its fidelity to the Constitution, its emphasis on national sovereignty, and its roots in Western civilization, Christianity, and personal responsibility," Martin wrote in a letter. “For too long, Canadian citizens have been subjected to an illusion of freedom administered through bureaucratic means.”
As federal troops land in US cities and the president essentially orders anyone critical to him off the air.
Fidelity to the Constitution lol.
He also rebranded it the Harper Government in all government ads and communications.

4·7 months ago25 years, or at least by the date we sort of agree on the first year is a little fuzzy lol.

Not gravel but I seem to recall the north south stretch between Revelstoke and Castlegar quite nice taking the number 6 or 31, there is a little ferry ride at Shelter Bay. IE you switch between hwy1/hw3 using this route in ether direction.
