Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•"Russia's security forces are reported to be in disarray following the attempted mutiny by the Wagner Group." - Long update that is bonkers inside
9·3 years agoWagner is the only one involved and isn’t really a random mercenary group though. Prigozhin is (was) in Putin’s inner circle and Wagner was a tool of the Russian government. I don’t think this is all that different from a faction in the armed forces trying to stage a coup as happened during Soviet times.
Of course when nukes are fought over it is always scary anyway which is why the USA didn’t really want the Soviet Union to fall apart either.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Windows vs Steam OS for your deck?
1·3 years agoThanks, this was quite informative as to what the state of things are on the Windows side.
That said, I highly dislike the idea of undermining Valve’s efforts to get PC gaming less dependent on Windows so certainly will not be using any of this.
Just note that several large mastodon instances including mastodon.social have blocked bird.makeup so it unfortunately is not available everywhere (personally I find it irreplaceable)

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Trench fighting: Close-up killing of several Russian servicemen by operators of the 73rd Naval Special Operations Center (SSO) during the assault 🔥 10 occupiers were destroyed.
5·3 years agoThere have been countless accounts of Russian mobiks and people drafted into LPR and DPR forces having to purchase their own gear, getting old and broken stuff etc.pretty much from the start of the war.
Then again Ukrainians are not always able to equip units well either. Donating helps.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•So I did figure out that yes, [#Mastodon](https://jammer.social/tags/Mastodon) can federate [#Lemmy](https://jammer.social/tags/Lemmy) and [#Kbin](https://jammer.social/tags/Kbin) content. The problem
1·3 years ago@sab @selfhosted @mike Do you know if there is a way to make it a link post from masto or is that also just a limitation for microblogs? It seems like attaching media is at least possible.
@archy does not work through nitter because of the age restriction
I assume this is the same video on mastodon: https://mas.to/@mhmck/110565653781867449

Gaming@beehaw.org•Summer Sale is live on GOG - Summer Sale deals up to -90%
2·3 years ago@Los Grabbed CC3, SMAC, X-COM: Apocalypse and Incoming. I tend to like Gog for the retro games still. Going to wait for Steam sale for more. Steam deck has definitely caused me to prefer steam a little bit more even though I do play games from other stores with Lutris/Heroic on it.

2·3 years ago@mike That is interesting, I was curious about whether it is possible to post to lemmy from mastodon… Seems like part of your message ended up becoming the title so I wonder if there is a way to format the message in a way that won’t look out of place on lemmy

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•New Report: Ukraine Drone Losses Are ‘10,000 Per Month’
2·3 years ago@sexy_peach In one of Hromadske’s reports from Bakhmut a drone team did quote a fairly high number for drone losses. Not sure how accurate 10k a month is but it doesn’t strike me as completely unbeliveable in relation to that.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Sweden signed a deal with Ukraine today on the training of Ukrainian pilots on Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighter Jets to start. 🇺🇦🇸🇪
2·3 years ago@BombOmOm I don’t think they have been promised Gripens or even Hornets yet? Swedes are only training and Australia is considering giving their old Hornets
I think the Brits were training them on another fighter in RAF service too.
@arkcom I don’t really see any problem with removing them morally if the license permits it
@c0c0c0 @lesserprophet this is lemmy.world’s own Ukraine community. The ban being talked about is https://lemmy.ml/c/Ukraine

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Ukraine’s Armor Appears To Have A Russian Attack Helicopter Problem
3·3 years ago@Thorny_Thicket @Eqweytr Gepard can only help to a limited degree because the Russian KA-52s have ATGMs that have a significantly longer range than a Gepard.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Anyone playing TOTK on their Steamdeck?
0·3 years ago@kadu @Fubarberry FWIW the author of cryoutilities has done benchmarks and figured that increasing the default on the Deck does improve performance in some games slightly. He claims that introducing the swapfile also mitigates any potential disadvantages.
73 million seconds@fosstodon.orgtoVirtual Reality@feddit.de•Quest Pro Was Meta's Missed Opportunity To Prove The Future
1·3 years agoIf that is such a great idea why is Quest doing so extremely well compared to PCVR right now?
I think the issue is more that we need both. There will not be any incentive for anyone to make any VR software if there are not users and clearly even the current VR headsets are of interest to enough people that you can build a market if you have a price they can afford.
Meta exclusively focusing on Quest and dropping Rift completely was what really was bad for VR.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Suggestions for good ego-shooters on steamdeck?
2·3 years agoIt’s just the term used in some countries like Germany for FPS.

Haha, well maybe a bit heretical considering this declares itself to be the successor to steamdeck_linux and not even just steamdeck. Guess I wouldn’t worry about it too much though.
