I’ve pretty much completed my new clean dark theme for the GIMP 3 series, but I’d like some feedback on one thing before I release it.
Should I use a light or dark tone for the separators? If you compare the two images you’ll see what I’m referring to.
I think the lighter separators are easier to see and the darker ones are less distracting.
Which do you think is better?
I know I have a bias towards making things low-contrast and ‘smooth’, sometimes overly so, and I’d appreciate some outside perspective.
Also posted to Mastodon if the images here are struggling to load on your Lemmy app, like they do sometimes on mine: https://mastodon.social/@jpicture/116255975518406081

To me the darker separators clearly say they are just for visually dividing the different elements. The lighter ones look like they can be interacted with (maybe they can?) but also are more easily confused with scrollbars, especially when right next to actual ones.

@Hadriscus@jlai.lu - what do you think?
Btw I’ve deepened the contrast as a whole based on your feedback - both in this and the PrintroomExpertSuperflat theme - and am happier with them.
Hi ! since the lighter grey is used throughout to convey information : typeface, icons, scopes, etc. I would use the darker grey for anything that’s not information, ie that shouldn’t compete for attention.
All that being said I am looking at it from my phone right now, but I’ll have a look from my proart monitor
Thanks 👍
