They don’t block .ml so they can spam “you’re on .ml lol everyone you’re talking to is an idiot/tankie/Sino-Russian bot” unprompted to anyone else who actually tries to engage in debate here. Acting like an edgelord with low effort dunks presumably also with a saviour complex of “guiding people who stumbled into the tankie zone back to the Western-liberal light” takes priority over actually blocking the people they hate and keep threatening to block.

People have this weird dislike of the block button and anyone that uses it. I use it very frequently on any social media site I use in order to have a better experience. It was one of my bigger problems with Reddit cause it had an extremely low block limit.

The amount of users you can block was really low. From what I’ve looked up it’s 1000 which is basically nothing. When I was using Twitter I had over 20k accounts blocked to better curate my experience.

How much time does it take to accumulate 20k blocked accounts?! That’s almost 20 a day every single day for 3 years Go touch some grass!

if a person thinks blocking users and communities they dont like is the way to curate their feed, i hope they block all the communities im in.

To be fair, you’re on an instance that blocks communist instances. Or do you mean defederation is better than individual blocking?

im new to lemmy, so i was yet unaware of .world instance blocking communist instances. i’ll look into that.

i think blocking is goofy, thats what i was trying to convey.

I always get the vibe it’s an astroturf. A way to c convince leftist to further isolate themselves like 1700 Japan. It just makes these people turn into Trump like archetypes where you only surround yourself with people you agree with.

That’s exactly how I curate my feed. Do you have any idea how many sports sublemmies my instance has? It’s the Midwest. It was a lot.

thats an interesting example and i do appreciate it.

but unless you regularly block users bc you dont like what they said, then i didnt really mean you :) i could have been more clear with my original comment that i exclusively meant both those things, but i didnt think to at the time.

What’s wrong with blockers users when you don’t like what they say? If someone is spewing slurs you bet I’m blocking them. I don’t need that in my life.

id report and block someone using slurs, but ive never seen that on lemmy.

the op of this post blocked me for my comment. i didnt use any slurs.

What’s the arbitrary line between avoiding people who use slurs vs people who annoy you and make your online experience worse?

I think it’s mega presumptuous to judge what other people should tolerate online.

That’s exactly my point though. Neither you nor I know how much your comment annoyed him. Only he gets to decide how much of a thing he should tolerate online.

I have NSFW content filtered but I still block the anime feed and Church of Thighentology comms because they aren’t NSFW but I still don’t want to see sexualized anime images in my feed.

I block communities related to leather and eating animal flesh because I’m not really interested in seeing dead bodies.

Am I being goofy? Do I only get to explore what’s new in the fedverse if I view sexualized or distressing material?

    Big brain meme template:

Regular brain -> curating feed by subbing to comms and browse based on my subbed community Big brain -> curating feed by browsing all and block the community I don’t like Galaxy brain -> curating feed by browsing all and getting banned from communities

GOING ON A SELF-RIGHTEOUS COMMENT SPREE WITH ZERO SUBSTANCE, GETTING BANNED, AND
    THEN CRYING ABOUT IT.

I thought getting banned for this reason is why .ml hates .world though?
