That is the most apt meme use of this picture I’ve ever seen.
Aren’t horses stupid expensive?
*and Biodegradable!
My wife had a horse. I had a Mazda RX—8.
The Mazda was used daily for my commute, averaged about 19mpg (iirc), required regular tops ups with mineral oil, cost a fortune in road fund license etc.
It was still cheaper per month than the horse that didn’t get ridden much and spent its life in a field of its own food.
And the horse didn’t even have a rotary engine!
Even though I don’t own it any more I still feel obliged to point out the difference….

Nothing like the sound of a wank in the morning
Yeah but a Wankel X-8 doesn’t sound nearly as cool
Aren’t horses stupid […]?
Yes.
I mean, so are cars.
CatsCars aren’t nearly as expensive in upkeep. There is a very good reason people started to switch to cars even before they were a lot faster than horsesTrue, cats just need a litterbox and kibble and they’re pretty much set.
The ones that are big enough to ride are very expensive again though.
Just feed them the drivers that cut you off in traffic instead of buying meat.
Yeah, unfortunately.
And almost as dangerous as a Tesla! Hey-o!
I think you were right the first time. Even when we took the damn stupid to the emergency vet it was cheaper than owning a horse.

But a car can’t make more cars if you have two of them.
Yeah but that won’t stop me from trying.
300-400 ish bucks where I live, it’s way more expensive to keep a horse than to buy one, even for a short time
Have you heard of bicycles?
Nope
OK. So bicycles have, as the name suggests, two wheels. The front wheel can be rotated for steering, while the rear wheel is for acceleration. You accelerate by alternately pushing down the pedals located approximately in the middle. Force is transferred from the pedals to the rear wheel usually via a chain, but other solutions, like a belt or axle, exist.
Since the wheels are in line the construction is prone to tipping to the side, so keeping the balance while sitting on it takes some practice.
But once you get the hang of it it’s one of the most versatile modes of transportation, with specialised bicycles (or “bikes” for short) for off-road use, extra light ones for racing, etc.😉
Holy shit let’s get someone to make them! We will be rich!
A velocipede, of sorts!
To a degree but they use post vulcanised wheels and most follow the safety bicycle standards whilst using a free hub to ensure the rider can coast frivolously.
Apart from April fool’s jokes I haven’t heard of automated bicycles yet…
I’m disabled. My ebike has cruise control for when i run out of steam, but i still have to steer.
Horse-automation sucks, though.
Oscillating between taking a food break when spotting some favorite green and becoming mortally frightened by a moving leaf, rising up on the hindlegs and galloping away in the opposite direction.
Don’t forget stopping to take a shit just whenever. I love horses, but getting them out of an urban setting was probably the best aspect of the industrial revolution.
But the horse automation can get you home on autopilot if it’s feeding time.
Just like self driving EVs then
always finding their way up onto the roof or gravitationally pulled into that one stupid post they could easily walk around.
damnit Roach.
I think the convenience of them knowing how to take you home if you pass out drunk on one is outweighed by the fact it consumes a ridiculous amount of hay and makes just as much poop everywhere it pleases.
yeah, at least i make my wife laugh. that’s why she chose me over the horse
Some evs can do that too. Probably less reliable though and i dont think self diving is intended to be used that way yet
Yes my volt has shat itself once or twice as well
Horses are incredibly costly to keep & maintain, and consume your entire life to care for them. Have fun with that, out on your ranch which you’ll also need a few extra million dollars to acquire.
Have fun with that, out on your ranch
That actually does sound fun, though.
Not sure how this has been out for over a decade and it’s my first time seeing it now. What a banger!
Came here for this 🤣
A horse took a shit on the sidewalk at an intersection near me and the city took so long to clean it that it had decomposed into dirt already.
They automated the cleaning process by simply having the mess decompose.
Where I live they just would have fined the rider, as it is his duty to clean it up.
Also, on the poop-side, at least horse droppings are as non-critical as this type of stuff can be.
Humans will always find a way to torture an animal for their own convenience
The only good use for a horse is sausages.
Mr Hands?
