I swear I haven’t had this issue before, but every time now I install a fresh TumbleweedOS installation, from the get-go, it won’t see the nVidia drivers at all. I have tried with a pc with rtx3050 and a pc with gtx1060. Both I had to do “crazy stuff” in terminal, to force it to use my gpu. This is freaking weird. (Haven’t been able to fix the 1060 setup yet…)

Any ideers what I do wrong?

For the 1060 you might need a specific driver. Pascal cards were discontinued a year or so ago. I think there was a legacy driver in the repos, you’ll have to check.

For clarification: Do you mean the driver you installed doesn’t work or that you GPU is not recognised? AFAIK you have to add the respective nvidia repo to get the drivers from nvidia, since they are non-free software, otherwise it will only use nouveau I think which works … somewhat.

Not recognized on kernel level, i gues. But what freaks me out is, that plasma clearly reads the GPU drivers fine, since I wouldn’t be able to increase the screen settings etc. Its only when I install games the drivers become a problem…

There can be multiple drivers. You might be using the nouveau-ones without noticing. There is such a thing as driver-blacklisting, never had to do it.
