There’s no way Trump is treating the Presidency like a Temu Sham-Wow! I would bet money on this being fake. But I’m not. Because I can’t categorically rule out the possibility.

21·2 天前Trump said last week.
Well, the news attributed the words to a notorious child-raper and adjudicated sexual assaulter, so I’d say this is fairly conclusive.

Programming@programming.dev•Should I teach students who doesn't know computer science C or JavaScript first?English
91·2 天前Python allows you to focus on a single concept in isolation (building on what you’ve already learned, of course). JS has a bunch of other stuff mixed in. Like the DOM. Interacting with the DOM is necessary for any browser code. You can hide it with abstractions and boilerplate, but it’s always going to surface in error messages. Debugging JS can be quite a bit harder than other languages.
Caveat: beginner JS is many years behind me. It may not be as bad as corporate code full of react and angular and all kinds of requirements.

News@lemmy.world•Democrats Might Save Mike Johnson’s Push to Give Trump Domestic Spying PowerEnglish
533·2 天前Generally speaking, I’m a Dems are better than Republicans no matter what voter, but it’s important that we give progressives primary wins. D & R are in total agreement when it comes to domestic spying and control, and in fact republicans at least pay lip service to civil liberties (much as Dems pay lip service to opposing big corporations but their actions show otherwise). Prior to Trump, it’s an issue I could find common cause with republican voters on — not the politicians selling the lies, but the voters eating them up.

10·2 天前Probably JS as the fact that every computer has by default everything you need to execute JS. But there is a bunch of browser stuff you have to worry about before you can do anything with it. I’m not sure how you learn JS before html.
With Python you can do simple command line stuff without having to really know anything else. You can learn one concept at a time.
That being said, people have a lot of familiarity with browsers and it might feel less abstract. JS might a better choice for demystifying coding. Python is probably a better choice for accomplishing anything useful.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the thought process behind trash-talking someone while simultaneously wanting to be with them?English
5·2 天前You’ve bruised his ego by rejecting him in favor of sexual agency. Society says that is a corrupt thing for a woman to do, which provides the means of lashing out for the perceived insult.
Beyond that I would have to speculate too much about his state of mind. It could be sexual conquest. It could be genuine heartbreak. Men’s egos are often fragile at young ages, and frequently they don’t know their own minds.
Even if you were so inclined, that would be creating a precedent for tolerating such treatment, and that would be unhealthy all the way around.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you feel about the current state of Lemmy?English
442·4 天前That’s not how I experience it. A few key blocks and I’m not seeing a bunch of assholery. Content isn’t endless, but there’s almost always something to talk about.
I suspect it depends a great deal on subs, interests, and sort order.
Yeah, I completely get you can have a good time with D&D. I loved the Vow of Poverty in 3e because I got to ignore stuff I hated and all, but canonically D&D has elements I really don’t love. That’s not to argue with anyone who enjoys D&D. More power to you. It’s just far from my favorite.
I enjoy playing D&D with friends but I hate the system and its strict focus on combat mechanics and hand waving of other ways to interact with the world. I vastly prefer the setting and perspective of Exalted (to be fair the setting isn’t anything that couldn’t be done in D&D), but the mechanics are super crunchy and reward min-maxing, and adjudicating combat rounds is really slow.
I prefer systems where social skills are first class mechanics, I don’t love offloading part of progression onto loot, and I don’t particularly enjoy the gold economy. Like I don’t enjoy tracking wealth and rations and such. I also prefer systems that attempt to recreate the narrative arcs of stories, so things that affect pacing, drama, contacting the flow of the story to character flaws, etc.
So ultimately I enjoy things like Fate/Dresden Files, World of Darkness, and Dungeon World. I think I might enjoy Thirsty Sword Lesbians as well but I’ve only played it once so I’m not sure.
D&D is… fine. I’ve played every version going back to the red box. Fifth is my favorite version of it so far. But I definitely don’t love it.
I’ll never give up D&D and i have no desire to wander from 5e. It’s basically perfect.
I genuinely love this for you. My very molecules are vibrating with the raw power of my disagreement, but when someone finds the thing they love, it’s a beautiful thing.

Technology@beehaw.org•Showerthoughts on LLM being pimped as AI and forced everywhere.English
61·5 天前Enshittification is about making money. The fact that AI is now faster and more capable of sifting through the garbage that is Google search than a human is a side effect, not a plan.
Also, your plot really only works if everyone tells AI about their every weakness, and if AI could be relied upon to answer factually. The person who relies on AI to destroy their opponent is inevitable going to run into a case where AI is completely wrong, and they are going to destroy themselves.
This might be an interesting story to tell in fiction, but I think trying to bring this about in real life would be self-sabotaging.
You could save a lot of water and anxiety with shorter showers.

31·5 天前Mate, I appreciate you showing up to a douchebaggery conversation as an object lesson, but no one would be here who hadn’t already experienced that, so this contribution wasn’t really helpful in this case. Thank you, though.

I think it would be more accurate to say a small percentage of Republicans have recently been negatively affected personally.
