  • Generally speaking, I’m a Dems are better than Republicans no matter what voter, but it’s important that we give progressives primary wins. D & R are in total agreement when it comes to domestic spying and control, and in fact republicans at least pay lip service to civil liberties (much as Dems pay lip service to opposing big corporations but their actions show otherwise). Prior to Trump, it’s an issue I could find common cause with republican voters on — not the politicians selling the lies, but the voters eating them up.

  • Probably JS as the fact that every computer has by default everything you need to execute JS. But there is a bunch of browser stuff you have to worry about before you can do anything with it. I’m not sure how you learn JS before html.

With Python you can do simple command line stuff without having to really know anything else. You can learn one concept at a time.

That being said, people have a lot of familiarity with browsers and it might feel less abstract. JS might a better choice for demystifying coding. Python is probably a better choice for accomplishing anything useful.

  • I enjoy playing D&D with friends but I hate the system and its strict focus on combat mechanics and hand waving of other ways to interact with the world. I vastly prefer the setting and perspective of Exalted (to be fair the setting isn’t anything that couldn’t be done in D&D), but the mechanics are super crunchy and reward min-maxing, and adjudicating combat rounds is really slow.

I prefer systems where social skills are first class mechanics, I don’t love offloading part of progression onto loot, and I don’t particularly enjoy the gold economy. Like I don’t enjoy tracking wealth and rations and such. I also prefer systems that attempt to recreate the narrative arcs of stories, so things that affect pacing, drama, contacting the flow of the story to character flaws, etc.

So ultimately I enjoy things like Fate/Dresden Files, World of Darkness, and Dungeon World. I think I might enjoy Thirsty Sword Lesbians as well but I’ve only played it once so I’m not sure.

D&D is… fine. I’ve played every version going back to the red box. Fifth is my favorite version of it so far. But I definitely don’t love it.

  • Enshittification is about making money. The fact that AI is now faster and more capable of sifting through the garbage that is Google search than a human is a side effect, not a plan.

Also, your plot really only works if everyone tells AI about their every weakness, and if AI could be relied upon to answer factually. The person who relies on AI to destroy their opponent is inevitable going to run into a case where AI is completely wrong, and they are going to destroy themselves.

This might be an interesting story to tell in fiction, but I think trying to bring this about in real life would be self-sabotaging.

You could save a lot of water and anxiety with shorter showers.
